For our last meetup of 2019, Miriam Russom, a senior program manager at Microsoft, will lead us in a conversation about her work in IoT and blockchain.
Internet of Things (IoT) is at the core of digital transformation happening in every Industry from Agriculture to Smart Cities to Manufacturing to Healthcare and Retail and more. IoT enables connecting things, getting new insights and drive actions. If we look at Smart Cities for example, cities are using innovative technology with IoT and AI to manage their resources more efficiently like water and energy, optimize traffic flows, optimize on waste collection and managing streetlights in a more efficient way. Blockchain is also emerging technology to enable transparent and verifiable systems that is changing the way people think about exchanging value and assets, tracing goods, enforcing contracts and sharing data.
In this talk we will explore scenarios that use IoT and Blockchain, how these technologies are used covering high-level architectural concepts and how you can get started on Microsoft Azure.
Bio:
Born and raised in Eritrea, Miriam studied arts and linguistic through high school and computer engineering in college graduating with a dual MSc in Computer Systems Engineering and Computer Science from Politecnico University of Milan and University of Illinois at Chicago. After college she joined Microsoft and is now a Senior Program Manager in Azure IoT (Internet-Of-Things) where she focuses on simplifying IoT and enabling Smart Cities solutions.
Miriam has a passion of applying intelligence to things, connecting the physical world to the digital world to enable new, more efficient and inclusive experiences with also a particular interest in the application of emerging technologies IoT, AI, and Blockchain for the enablement of developing and emerging markets. She got interested in learning more about Blockchain after going to a Coffee conference and thinking of the possibility of using IoT and Blockchain to enable farmers to have access to global markets which led to a side hack project with a colleague.
At her core Miriam is an engineer who likes to solve problems leveraging her multidisciplinary and multicultural background.
