We are thrilled to introduce our Keynote for our May 16 Long Lunch hosted by Dominion Energy Innovation Center:
Kate Chenery Tweedy is the daughter of Secretariat’s owner Penny Chenery, and granddaughter of his breeder, Christopher Chenery.
A Colorado native, she grew up visiting her grandfather’s farm, The Meadow, in Doswell, VA, where Secretariat was born and raised. She was at her mother’s side in 1973 when Secretariat demolished the records in all the Triple Crown Races, a feat still unequaled today.
Later Kate had the pleasure of escorting her mother to racing events all over the country as well as consulting on the Disney script for the 2010 movie, Secretariat. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/efKVYz65
In 2023-4, Kate helped lead the team that raised nearly a million dollars to bring a magnificent larger-than-life bronze statue of Secretariat to Ashland, VA, close to his birthplace at the Meadow. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eVCXwBi9
Kate has a BA from University of Texas, Austin, and a JD from Berkeley Law. For a decade she represented refugees and asylum seekers before becoming a teacher.
Since 2007, she has co-authored several books including Secretariat’s Meadow (https://lnkd.in/ezr2He4R), which has sold over 45,000 copies and won several awards.
Now a resident of Ashland, Virginia, Kate is writing a memoir-biography about her mother. She enjoys speaking about her family history and their magnificent horse to audiences nationwide.
March 28, 2026 is Secretariat Day. This event celebrates the life of Secretariat and is free to the public: https://lnkd.in/etV6GhND
