Data for Real Life: Our First Community Meetup
Details
Welcome to the very first Women in Data Mentorship Alliance (WDMA) gathering! This session is all about connection, curiosity, and community. You don’t need experience, money, or credentials — just curiosity and the courage to show up.
We’ll start by introducing what this group is all about: helping women of all backgrounds learn data, use it to solve real-life problems, and build confidence, independence, and new opportunities. Whether you’re a mom, a student, retired, working three jobs, or simply exploring what’s next — you belong here.
What We’ll Do
💬 Introductions and personal stories — who you are, what you’d love to learn, or what real-life challenge you’d like to solve.
💡 Overview of WDMA’s mission, how I'm thinking sessions will work, and upcoming topic ideas. Keep in mind, this is community first, so sessions and structure are completely up to you, we can adjust however the community or individual may need
🧠 Mini interactive session: “What Is Data and How Does It Show Up in Our Lives?”
💭 Group brainstorming: What do YOU want to learn first?
🤝 Networking and resource exchange — connect with other women who share your goals. If no one else shares your goals or you're simply exploring, that is okay too! You matter and you belong!
This first meetup will be relaxed, open, and supportive. Bring your coffee, notebook, and an open mind.
What to Bring
- A notebook or laptop (optional)
- Curiosity and ideas — big or small
- A willingness to learn and connect
Note - I'm working to find us resources or even access to used laptops so each person can have a laptop, at least during the duration of the session. I'll keep you updated and if you have ideas on resources or groups that might be able to facilitate, let's connect!
Language & Accessibility
All women are welcome, including those for whom English is a second language. If translation is needed, I’ll do my best to arrange support so that everyone can participate fully.
Location
📍 To be announced soon — I’m currently gathering a list of safe, accessible meeting spots around the Raleigh area, including Durham, Chapel Hill, and Garner. If you know a great space, please reach out!
