Level Up Your Game / WiDS @ Haifa
Details
WiDS Israel is coming to the one-and-only Haifa for this exceptional meetup, open to data scientists of ALL GENDERS.
Join us for a night about leveling up your data science game, focused on those extra skills that take you from good to great, with three captivating talks:
- "Choosing the Right ML Abstraction for your Business Needs" / Noa Weiss, AI & Machine Learning Consultant @ Noa Weiss Consulting
- "Clean Code for Data Scientists" / Galit Bary-Weisberg, Algorithm Team Lead @ Mobileye
- "Bringing SOTA Image-To-Image Models to the World: The Case of Hair Restyling With Diffusion Models"/ AJ Bruce, Researcher @ Lightricks

"Choosing the Right Machine Learning Abstraction for your Business Needs"
Noa Weiss
AI & Machine Learning Consultant @ Noa Weiss Consulting
Choosing the right abstraction for your problem - it is a step crucial to the success of every ML project, yet one that is often overlooked. We could spend hours debating whether to use XGBoost or CATboost, yet neglect giving our conscious attention to a more elementary decision: how to model our problem in the first place.
The exact same business case could be modeled, for example, as a classification problem, a clustering one, or even a graph link-predictions task. And as the options vary, so do the considerations for choosing among them, including not only machine learning theory, but also the needs of your business, organizational constraints, and many more.
Join me to discuss the principles of choosing the best ML abstraction for your needs, things to consider and pitfalls to avoid, all through the lens of a real-life case study from my consultancy work with Ex Libris.
"Clean Code for Data Scientists"
Galit Bary-Weisberg
Algorithm Team Lead @ Mobileye
What do you feel when you hear the phrase Clean Code?
In this talk I would present the concept of clean-code and would like to convince you why we as data scientists can also benefit a lot from clean code.
We’ll discuss when we should put our efforts into it (and when not), how to incorporate it into our day to day work, and of course we will also discuss some clean code best practices.
A big part of the talk will be based on the book "Clean Code" by Robert Martin.
"Bringing SOTA Image-To-Image Models to the World: The Case of Hair Restyling With Diffusion Models"
AJ Bruce
Researcher @ Lightricks
How can we apply the latest breakthroughs in computer vision to edit our images in beautiful and creative ways? How do we know when we should examine different approaches to our current projects?
I will be discussing the how, what, and why of different solutions to the problem of editing the hair style in facial portraits. We will see why editing images in the pixel space does not give us enough control for large structural changes, and we will learn about the pros and cons of different neural network architectures. We will discuss the hottest recent advancement in computer vision- diffusion models- and talk about how we can harness these models to create incredibly diverse and creative hair styles.
Join me in learning how we can bring the power of the most state-of-the-art image-to-image models to the world.
