Whether you're interested in web development, systems programming, or diving into the world of embedded devices, there's something here for everyone.
đź’« Our in-person meetups are hosted in the heart of London, just above Oxford Circus. They're hybrid, so if you're based internationally, or aren't able to make it into London you'll be able to join through our online link.
đź’» We'll be hosting regular online Lunch & Learn sessions, where are guest speakers will provide insightful webinars, sharing their own experiences and valuable lessons learned on their journey into Rust programming.

We set up Women in Rust to foster a more inclusive and diverse Rust community by providing a dedicated space for women to connect, learn, and grow. Our online and in-person events are designed to support this mission. What is it like to learn Rust as your first programming language? This talk covers the process, motivation, tools and tips & tricks for learning Rust as a total beginner. It is based on Karin Lammers' experiences, who started with Rust at the end of 2024 with no programming experience. You will learn how she set up her learning process with the five pillars of learning, what learning tools were used, what difficulties she ran into and how they were solved. Also some suggestions for improving the beginners' learning process are shared. After this talk, you will know how to start learning Rust yourself as a beginner, or how to help a beginner in learning!Speaker:
Karin Lammers is a Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) enthusiast, advocating for better process management in FOSS projects. As a freelancer, she assists FOSS projects with their governance, strategy, documentation and community building. She has a background in education and governance, and is currently learning Rust as her first programming language. She is part of the maintainer team of Ariel OS, a library operating system for secure, memory-safe, low-power Internet of Things, written in Rust. She is also maintainer of RIOT OS and is a member of the Digital Commons Task Force (DCTF), an advisory body of the NGI Commons project.FAQs

Reasoning through concurrent systems has always been a challenging task. Poor code can be riddled with race conditions, non-terminating cases and other complex concurrency bugs; and even well-written code can be hard to understand. Async programming is an innovative concurrent programming model that rises to this challenge. In this talk, we'll explore reasoning with async Rust. We'll be introduced to its fundamental building blocks, such as `async`, `await` and `join`, and learn how to predict the behavior of code written with them.Speaker:
