About the speakers

Gabriella Burns | LinkedIn
Gabriella Burns is a self-taught software engineer with a background in environmental health. Her non-traditional path into the industry began when she joined Moody’s as a data specialist, where she taught herself Python to automate tasks, paving the way for her transition into software engineering. She is now a full-stack software engineer working with Rust, Python, React, and Typescript. Her work at Moody's focuses on building Rust APIs and features that enable seamless third-party integration with the platform.

Lisa Crossman | LinkedIn
Lisa is a bioinformatician and microbiologist, researching microbial genomics and bioinformatics pipeline development. With a PhD in microbiology and experience working in bioinformatics from across the world, she analyses large biological datasets, working on projects both clinical and environmental using traditional methods and machine learning. Engaging with the Rust community since 2021, she enjoys exploring new ways to integrate Rust into bioinformatics analysis. She recently started an open-source project, microBioRust, and actively contributes research to the community whenever possible.

Is Women in Rust only for women?
We set up Women in Rust to help encourage more women to join the Rust community and therefore our online and in-person events are specifically for women. We also want to be able to support the wider Rust community too, which is why all of our talks will be available to watch on Youtube after the event. We also welcome you to use our Notion Resources page, where you can find useful articles, reading materials and advice to help you on your journey in learning Rust.
