Neurodiversity in the Workplace - VIRTUAL Women In Tech Panel Discussion

Details

Women in Tech are back with our next Virtual Event of 2020! An enlightening discussion around “Neurodiversity in the Workplace”. Just a few days after World Mental Health Day, we will hold this Virtual Event - kindly sponsored and hosted by Novosco – on Tuesday 13th October at 6.30pm.

‘Neurodiversity may be every bit as crucial for the human race as biodiversity is for life in general. Who can say what form of wiring will be best at any given moment? So wrote American journalist Harvey Blume in The Atlantic in 1998 – in what is believed to be one of the first uses of the term ‘neurodiversity’ in print.

Autism affects more than one in 100 people in the UK, according to Autism UK, and it is estimated that around one in seven people (more than 15% of the population) are neurodivergent – a broad term that refers to people who have Autism, ADHD, Dyspraxia and other neurodevelopmental conditions.

Join a conversation around the challenges that neurodiverse workers in tech encounter, tips and advice for individuals and employers - and why we should embrace a neurodiverse workforce. We’ll be hearing from neurodiverse people and experts in the field through a Panel Discussion followed by an open Q&A.

Our fantastic panellists include:

• Jennifer Elliot - Service Desk Analyst at Novosco / Autism Speaker
• Jennifer Opal - DevOps Engineer at BT Group / Tech, Neurodiversity & Inclusion Advocate
• Sharon Didrichsen, Managing Director, Specialisterne - a specialist consultancy that recruits and supports talented autistic people
• Claire Wilgar – Women in Tech Executive Committee Member / advocate for diverse workplaces in technology

Our sponsors Novosoco are kindly supporting a WiT Book Giveaway – we have 65 Kindle copies to giveaway of Jenara Nerenber’s influential book: Divergent Mind: Thriving in a World That Wasn't Designed for You. The book is described as “a paradigm-shifting study of neurodivergent women—those with ADHD, autism, synaesthesia, high sensitivity, and sensory processing disorder—exploring why these traits are overlooked in women and how society benefits from allowing their unique strengths to flourish”

We can’t wait to see you there and encourage anyone with an interest in this topic to attend, regardless of background.
