Let's check out a free Jane's Walk in Calgary! Jane’s Walk is an annual festival of free, community-led walking conversations inspired by urbanist and writer Jane Jacobs.

As some of you might know, I am an urban planner, so Jane's walks and the conversations that come up in them are very near and dear to my heart.

For this one, our host will be Calgary novelist Susan Calder who will be taking us on a a guided walk through the Balmoral neighbourhood, the setting for her latest mystery novel.

I think it would be so cool to also read her book for a future book club!!

Our tour begins at the recently transformed Balmoral Circus Park, one of only two circuses in Calgary. From there, we’ll stroll through the community and learn about its history and significance for Calgary’s past. Highlights include a row of preserved workers’ cottages, the mixed commercial block that housed the second branch of the Calgary Public Library, and Balmoral Bungalow School—its design unique to Calgary. We circle back to Balmoral Circus, which was originally inspired by Calgary Parks Superintendent William Reader and the City Beautiful movement in the 1930s.

You need to get a FREE ticket to participate. A lot of the walks last year sold out. Be sure to get a ticket when they go "on sale" (free) - April 1!

We can check out a local coffee shop after!

No need to feel shy if you’re coming alone. Most girls come alone and leave with new found friendships!

Please ensure you are up to date on your annual dues for our meetup group. It’s just $5 per person for a 12‑month membership, which covers our Meetup.com fees (over $500 per year). Your $5 gives you 12 months access from the day you pay. A huge thank‑you to everyone who’s already contributed - we truly couldn’t keep this group going without you!
