Details
Date: Sunday July 19, 2026
Time: 2:00 pm
Location: Pie Junkie Legacy
Life After Cars is a sharp, compelling examination of how deeply automobiles have shaped — and damaged — modern life. Written by Sarah Goodyear, Doug Gordon, and Aaron Naparstek, hosts of The War on Cars podcast, the book argues that cars haven’t delivered the freedom they promised. Instead, they’ve reshaped our cities around traffic, isolation, danger, and environmental harm.
Drawing on history, interviews, and eye‑opening statistics, the authors unpack how car‑centric planning has affected everything from public safety to community life to climate resilience. But the book isn’t just a critique — it’s a call to imagine something better. It offers practical tools, inspiring examples, and a hopeful vision for communities built around people rather than vehicles.
We’ll meet at the AMAZING Pie Junkie in Legacy, enjoy a treat, and dive into the book together. Afterward, we’ll take a walk through the neighbourhood to see how these ideas show up in real life. Legacy is designed to support some basic trips without a car and has relatively strong pedestrian infrastructure. As we walk, we’ll observe what works well — and where the design might fall short.
As always, we are certainly not going for perfection here! Even if you don't finish it, you will still be able to participate in the discussion as we always try to make the questions relatable. We always appreciate your attendance and your thoughts - presence over perfection :)
