It's that time of year again-where WVSA takes part in the Stand Down event hosted by the American GI Forum.
The American GI Forum's Veterans Stand Down is taking place on 7 November. This is on a Friday.
This year the event is being held at a different location, and WVSA will be indoors, handing out feminine hygiene products and other much needed items to the homeless/at risk women Veterans who are at this event.
More details closer to the event! We do keep the group small due to a lack of space. Also, volunteers need to fill out the form that I have saved in the comments, or I can email a copy.
On the day of, we will need assistance distributing supplies, and then tear down/transporting leftover supplies to Haven for Hope or our WVSA office.
Here are the area we will need help on the 7th:
Bra station- Find out what size they need and give them 2-3 bras each
Underwear & Sock station- Engage with the women as they come through. Find out what sizes they need and give them 2-3 pair
Feminine Hygiene station - Point out what we have available, and give them what they need/want.
What is the Stand Down?
The Stand Down provides homeless Veterans access to the services of more than 50 community agencies that provide medical and dental services, hot food, clothing, medical exams, flu shots, haircuts, a community court, and a variety of supplies and information.
WVSA will be handing out feminine hygiene products and other much needed items to the homeless women Veterans who come through. This will take place in a women veteran only space (indoors). We will also share our supplies with non-vet women at the event!
Participating in the Stand Down not only provides WVSA members with another avenue for bonding, socializing, and networking with other community partners, but also offers homeless women Veterans a stepping stone of reconnection and camaraderie that leads to more profound service engagement and eventually into self-sufficiency.
