A Gentle Introduction to Functional Programming in Scala

Details
Date confirmed as Monday 27th March.
We're running this event jointly with the fantastic team at Instil / Bash.
The aim is to have 50 / 50 ratio for women / men.
Blurb:
This will be a gentle introduction to functional programming for developers with little or no background in FP. There will be a short (20-30 min) introduction covering the key characteristics of functional languages and then attendees will spend an hour incrementally solving a sample problem using functional techniques. The presenters will be continually available for coaching and there will be incremental 'catch up' points so that no one is left behind.
No previous Scala experience is required but attendees should be experienced in one of the 'C' family of languages (Java, C++, C# etc...). If possible please bring a laptop with the Java 8 JDK installed and the IntelliJ IDE with Scala plugin (we can help you set these up before the event begins). There will be a limited number of pre-configured machines available on a first-come, first-served basis.
