Details
Calling all developers to come, collaborate, enhance their skills and get started on contributing to OpenJDK.
It is a hack day so you can do whatever you want and work at your own pace! This would be a hands on exercise so bring your laptop and your desire to try things out & have fun!
I recommend visiting the below links to get you prepared :
• Adopt OpenJDK getting started guide: https://adoptopenjdk.gitbooks.io/adoptopenjdk-getting-started-kit/
• OpenJDK Information: https://java.net/projects/adoptopenjdk/pages/AdoptOpenJDK
Download supporting software
• VirtualBox (to load the VM): https://www.virtualbox.org/
• Java (inside the VM): http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/
• Favourite IDE of choice.
Optional
• Docker: https://docs.docker.com/installation/#installation
• Boot2Docker: http://boot2docker.io/
• Vagrant (to start vagrant boxes) https://www.vagrantup.com/
I will be providing ready made VM on the day if you have any difficulties with your environments.
If you are using Vagrant + VirtualBox
One of our expert volunteers who helped develop the vagrant machines based approach to building OpenJDK has suggested to use the below command to get your system up and running to save hours ~
vagrant box add ubuntu/trusty-amd64 https://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/vagrant/trusty/current/trusty-server-cloudimg-amd64-vagrant-disk1.box
Thanks to Birbeck University for providing the space.
