Topic:
A New Ally During Covid-19 - Autonomous Social Drones

Abstract:
Autonomous Drones respond quickly in case of the disaster/epidemic and function well in environments that are unsafe for humans. Countries have seen its benefits in case of a natural disasters like a flood, earthquake etc. or epidemic like Covid-19 where it can be extremely dangerous to send first responders in. As the world continues to tackle the ongoing crisis, drones can play a key role in combating the coronavirus. Drone can help authorities providing services such as disinfecting contaminated areas, ensuring people are following social distancing, managing crowds and delivering medical supplies.
The key objective of the session will be to acquaint the participants with the technology and functional layers of an autonomous flying system, in this case a drone. We will explain the key components mentioned below along with some details of the algorithms to make the drone fly:
• mapping, discretizing the search space
• finding the optimal path,
• detecting & avoiding obstacles,
• looking for an object of interest in a chaotic epidemic scene and finally,
• the vehicle dynamics like autopilot, sensors, flight controllers.
