What we’re about
- Have you been working in tech for several years now?
- Ever felt out of place or like you didn’t belong in certain company cultures?
- Ever cringed at women-am-I-right jokes in the workplace?
- Ever forced yourself to go to after-work drinks just to network?
- Ever been tone-policed or given feedback that wasn’t actually actionable?
- Are you feeling damn exhausted in general?
If so, this may be your book club.
I’m Laura, a Senior Technical Writer from Madrid. After more than 10 years working in tech across Ireland, Germany, and Spain, I’ve just gone through my first layoff. I’ve decided to put all my renewed, replenished energy into my side passion: advocating for Women in Tech and helping them stay active in the industry. That’s when it hit me—Barcelona has plenty of women-in-tech groups and women-only book clubs, but nothing that brings the two together.
And so Women Who Tech & Read was born.
👉Barcelona’s first English-speaking, women-only book club dedicated entirely to women in tech.
A space to explore non-fiction by women in tech and learn to thrive in male-dominated environments in 2026—especially as conservative politics increasingly shape the tech industry.
We will read and discuss book such as:
- Brotopia – Emily Chang: Exposes the culture of Silicon Valley, including sexism, power dynamics, and barriers women face in tech.
- Reset – Ellen Pao: A personal and professional story about navigating tech, sexism, and fighting for fairness in a male-dominated industry.
- Lean In – Sheryl Sandberg: Advice on leadership, career growth, and overcoming challenges as women in workplaces like tech.
- Technically Wrong – Sara Wachter-Boettcher: Examines how tech products and culture often fail women and minorities, highlighting the need for inclusivity.
.
If this vision speaks to you, come join the meetup and let’s make it happen!
I’m already in talks with a bookstore/space for us :)
