### Bodies and Faces: The Art of Being Seen

#### Art exhibition opening celebrating Suzanne Pickett, Zora Neale Hurston Fellow

Note: Time adjusted to accommodate community participation in scheduled civic events on this date, reflecting our support for freedom of expression and community engagement.

Celebrate the intersection of art, story, and community at this intimate Jacksonville art exhibition hosted in a historic Riverside home at 1610 Osceola Street, Jacksonville, FL. Join us for an afternoon honoring Suzanne Pickett—renowned mixed-media artist, community organizer, and Zora Neale Hurston Fellow—presented by Women Writing for (a) Change Jacksonville.

Suzanne’s latest series, Bodies and Faces: The Art of Being Seen, blends acrylic paint, inks, collage, and textured mediums to explore how people and nature intertwine. Her layered portraits mirror human complexity—each figure built from memories, fragments, and symbols that tell unseen stories.

The bird motif, woven throughout her work, symbolizes freedom, resilience, and spiritual voice—especially resonant within Eastside Jacksonville, where communities have long created art and meaning amid invisibility. Through her work, Suzanne invites us to “be seen,” both individually and collectively, as part of a larger cultural and ecological story.

This evening gathering includes live music, conversation, and celebration—an opportunity to connect through creativity, reflection, and shared purpose.
