Empathic Universe: An Evening at the Museum of Art & Design

Join us on Thursday, July 17 at 6:00 PM for a private, guided tour of Saya Woolfalk: Empathic Universe, a New York Times–profiled retrospective at the Museum of Arts and Design. This exclusive evening offers a chance to explore 20 years of Woolfalk’s speculative storytelling—where hybrid beings, folkloric fantasy, and immersive art collide in bold and beautiful ways.

Named an Artsy Top-10 spring exhibition and an Artnet must-see, the show brings to life Woolfalk’s imagined world of the “Empathics”—a fictional race of women who evolve through shared understanding. Drawing from African, Japanese, Brazilian, and Afrofuturist traditions, the artist blends garment-based sculpture, multimedia installations, and visual mythology to tell a story of cultural transformation and creative hybridity.

Your experience will include access to a one-night-only live gallery performance, developed in collaboration with dancers from the Alvin Ailey/Fordham BFA program, who bring Woolfalk’s world to life through movement.

Afterward, join fellow members for a relaxed dinner filled with conversation, connection, and creative exchange at the museum’s rooftop restaurant.
