The Correspondent
Details
Hello!
This month, we will be reading The Correspondent by Virginia Evans.
“Imagine, the letters one has sent out into the world, the letters received back in turn, are like the pieces of a magnificent puzzle. . . . Isn’t there something wonderful in that, to think that a story of one’s life is preserved in some way, that this very letter may one day mean something, even if it is a very small thing, to someone?”
Published last year, The Correspondent takes us through a woman's life, community, and reflections through the letters she wrote and received. We join her for the quiet moments, the highs, the chapters defined by darkness, and the labor of revisiting those eras and doing the work to fully heal from them. It has 4.5 stars on Goodreads; was named a best book of the year by NPR, Washington Post, and NPR; and (most importantly) comes highly recommended by members of our group, the only critics that matter in my heart!
Maybe one day my life story will be told in all the Meetup blurbs I have written. I'd probably give it 3 stars on Goodreads. Too happy, I need more tension (but hey at least it won't be science fiction).
Looking forward to seeing you all in April :)
