Book Discussion 1: (in person) Becoming Madam Secretary by Stephanie Dray

Details
Our May book read is: Becoming Madam Secretary by Stephanie Dray
Stephanie Dray does not disappoint in this depiction of a heroine in the 1930s to the 1940s. Our heroine is not only fighting for the working class but also working directly with those children living in the crowded, cramped, and poor living conditions of New York City apartment buildings. She mixes her social endeavors, friends, and acquaintances in the arts, politics, and financial scene into her ambitions to change a nation and benefit those who have been overlooked. The love of her life becomes a part of her historical role in the White House. This is a woman who made enemies and stood by her ideals despite the sacrifice. She was once told by a well-known and admired suffragist who worked for equality named Florence Kelley, "My dear girl, making a few enemies is how you know you're doing things right." We can not wait to hear or read this novel about Frances Perkins, the Secretary of Labor under Franklin D. Roosevelt, and then dive deep into the discussion.
