As an older adult (age 85) with a background in psychology, I had dabbled for years in meditation. When Janaki was presented to me as an excellent meditation teacher, I attended her classes and am delighted to say that I am experiencing a deeper level of calm emanating from my meditation. Janaki's ability to simplify "the very complex,” is working for me and I am appreciative of the gift of finally "getting it.” Thank you for transferring to me something that words are frequently unable to convey. I am enjoying a welcome feeling of comfort during a year of innumerable personal challenges. Thank you.

Janaki Pierson, the Director of WMYC, offers Foundations of Meditation, a program specifically designed to help participants establish a regular, daily meditation practice for radiant health, inner peace, and steadfast equanimity. We train in the theory and practice of correct meditation. Even experienced meditators find new insights and renewed enthusiasm for their practice in this class. Topics include:
- The benefits of meditation
- Application to stress management
- Posture
- The relationship between breath and mind
- The power of mantra
- The evolution of consciousness — Kundalini Shakti
- The mind and attention.
We reap the rewards of our meditation practice — reduced feelings of isolation or loneliness, enhanced sense of calmness, inner peace, tranquility, spiritual connection, and a greater ability to let go into acceptance. Our immune system is stronger when it is not bombarded with stress-related hormones. Learn yogic breathing to quiet the mind for easier, deeper sleep and to remain calm under stress in any moment.
