Please join Greater Worcester Humanists for our annual "Darwin Day" meeting, celebrating the birthday of Charles Darwin (Born 12 Feb 1809).
Dr. Constance Clark from WPI will speak on "Mis-Uses of Evolutionary Theory". This is about how the theory of evolution has been misused to promote ideas that Charles Darwin did not subscribe to, such as racism and eugenics. You are welcome to arrive and mingle around 6:30 PM. We will begin the formal meeting at 7 PM.

Since the publication of On the Origin of Species 160 years ago, Darwin's ideas have revolutionized our understanding of the natural world and our place in it. Sadly, they have also been used to justify ideas such as eugenics and racial purity that Darwin would have found appalling. Dr. Clark will lead us on an exploration of some of these mis-uses of evolutionary theory.

Dr. Constance Clark is Associate Professor of Humanities and Arts at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Her research interests include History of Life Sciences and Evolutionary Thought and History of Visual Images and Visual Rhetoric in Science and Technology.

If we have to cancel the talk due to weather, we will notify everyone and reschedule for a later date.
