21:00 Drinks @ the barRian Rietveld is a web accessibility specialist. She has worked as a consultant for WordPress agencies and wrote guidelines for the Dutch government on accessible web forms and WCAG. She is currently working on an update and expansion of the documentation about accessibility for WordPress. That is spread out all over the place and badly needs updating and reorganising to suit modern web development. When Rian retired from her consultancy work, she thought it would be a fun project to take on: managing a much needed open source project for the WordPress community. In this talk, she will share her ongoing journey from idea to outcome. The lessons she learns, the challenges she faces, and the support she receives along the way.
This talk is part of a series of 3:
- this talk focusses on process, delegation, and publishing technology
- WP Meetup Utrecht on Oct 21 (in Dutch) focusses on content, contributing, and structure
- WordCamp NL is a lightning talk (in English) about content and contribution
Jaap Wiering designs websites and printed materials through his Amsterdam-based company Fanagalo. He organizes Meetups in Amsterdam, volunteers at WordCamps, and works on making WordPress more sustainable. In his talk he will discuss WordPress core values, the urgency of sustainability and way to make WordPress more sustainable.

21:00 Drinks @ the barSimon Janssen joined Digishock/WebsiteNazorg.nl four years ago. He helped spin off the web development and support departments, and with the latter he experimented with new business models. Two years ago, Simon set out on a journey to transform his company from an “hours factory” into a “value factory.” No more endless debates about billable hours, project overruns, or whether to charge clients for unexpected extra time. The result? A calmer workplace where employees and clients alike know what to expect, and where quality can truly flourish. In this talk, Simon shares his ongoing journey, with all its ups and downs, in the hope of inspiring web designers, agencies, and freelancers alike, and to move beyond the billable hour and build organizations where value and clarity take center stage.
