#50: Diversity & Inclusion in WordPress Communities with Ifo Ikede

This presentation will include a resource list to allow folks to dig deeper and to facilitate change within their organizations. You will want to attend this workshop if you ever wondered:

• How can we grow our local WordPress community, how can we truly embrace and celebrate diversity..?
• How can we make our spaces and event a truly safe space for women, visible-minorities and other marginalized and under Representative groups?

We will host a facilitated group discussion, in which strategies will be shared, to increase outreach to underrepresented communities, as well as how to make the spaces, workplaces, conferences etc. welcoming to diverse groups of gender, mental health & racialized communities.

It will open up with a brief overview of some of the challenges and solutions, showcasing some success strategies, including what wordpress.com is doing and a bit of Ifo’s personal journey in the IT sector.

About the Presenter

Ifo Ikede is Isoko, from the Niger-delta region of the west coast of Africa, and is Founder of a social media and marketing company focused on helping non-profits and businesses to better market to clients from non-English and non-French cultural background.

Their experiences as an immigrant to Canada, as well as active participation in settlement for both immigrant and refugee groups, and their involvement in First Nations and African Canadian integration issues, as well as the thousands of years of wisdom from the ancestors, put Ifo in a unique position to provide insights from lived experience to create healthy and healing communities.

Ifo is addicted to drumming and dancing, often dancing 3 to 5 times a week, is a competitive soccer player and martial artist … and, like many African grandmas, loves to cook and share yummy treats.
