John Maeda, one of the biggest names in design and technology nowadays, recently joined Automattic as Global Head of Computational Design and Inclusion.

Former Design Partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB), former Professor at the MIT Media Lab and President of the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), he holds BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT, an MBA from Arizona State University, and a PhD from University of Tsukuba in Japan.

He was the recipient of the White House’s National Design Award, the Tribeca Film Festival’s Disruptive Innovation Award for STEM to STEAM (by adding Art), the Blouin Foundation’s Creative Leadership Award, the AIGA Medal, the Raymond Loewy Foundation Prize, the Mainichi Design Prize, the Tokyo Type Director’s Club Prize, and induction into the Art Director’s Club Hall of Fame. His work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Cartier Foundation in Paris.
