How a designer builds sites with the Full Site Editor

The Full Site Editor was introduced in WordPress 5.9 in January 2022. It’s developed into a page builder system that allows you to completely control the layout and appearance of your website, including global elements like headers and footers, and templates for pages and archives.

The Full Site Editor is similar to third party builders like Divi and Elementor, but as part of WordPress’s core installation it’s included for free, and has its own features and quirks.

At our May meetup, Brad Cathey will demonstrate how he uses the Full Site Editor to build WordPress websites for his clients. Brad is an experienced graphic designer in Wheaton and has built his last 6 WordPress sites with the Full Site Editor and a block theme.

Brad will discuss his 45-year-old graphic design company’s journey from T-square to computers and from print to web to WordPress. He’ll describe how using in-house themes, Gutenberg blocks, and Full Site Editing works for their client-project workflow.

Brad will explore the features and benefits of FSE and what differentiates it from previous WordPress development methods. He’ll walk us through his process, from Photoshop mockups to final pixel-perfect buildouts. He’ll demonstrate how he uses the Full Site Editor to have complete creative control over the branding, layout, and content of the website.

Brad says “Everybody has tools that they’re comfortable with and they should continue to use them. I just happen to like what WordPress to offer these days.”
