Let's code! Creating your first WordPress Child Theme

When you need to apply some customizations to your WordPress site, the best place to put them is in a child theme.

A child theme allows you to change small aspects of your site’s appearance yet still preserve your theme’s look and functionality.

Join us to learn how child themes work, the relationship between parent and child themes, and how to create your first child theme.

If you want to code along, you will need to have access to a local WordPress install.

Popular options for local installs are:

• XAMPP
• MAMP
• WampServer
• DesktopServer
• LocalWP
• DevKinsta

You will also need a text editor to edit WordPress files:

• Visual Studio Code
• Sublime Text
• Notepad++
• Atom

You can also use a service like InstaWP, which allows you to create a free WordPress install, and has a cloud-based code editor.
