๐ Let's Explore WordPress 7.0
Details
At our next WordPress Sunshine Coast Meetup, we're going to dig into WordPress 7.0, which was originally scheduled for April 9, 2026 but has been delayed to stabilise some of the significant changes around collaborative editing.
The 7.0 release is a big one. This release moves WordPress meaningfully forward in some really important areas, and we'll fire up a local site to look at the new features & changes together - what they are, how they work, and where you might actually use them.
Some of what we'll cover:
- Real-time collaboration - multiple editors, live cursors, and real-time comments in the editor
- The native AI API, connecting providers like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic directly to WordPress
- Two new blocks: Breadcrumbs and Icons
- A refreshed admin interface with better typography and contrast
- The Command Palette, now accessible everywhere in the admin via Cmd/Ctrl + K
- A redesigned revisions interface with visual differences inside the editor
- Block-level custom CSS, conditional visibility per device, and an improved Custom HTML block
We'll also touch on some of the developer-focused changes, including the Abilities API, client-side AI infrastructure, and the move toward a fully iFramed post editor.
This is shaping up to be one of the more significant WordPress releases in a while.
As always, we'll have plenty of time for discussion, questions and assistance with anything WordPress related at the end.
Looking forward to exploring it with you all!
