This talk will cover best practices that you can use to get effective support from theme and plugin shops as a freelancer, blogger, agency, enterprise, or government client.
From the other side as a customer support provider, this talk will also discuss best practices that you can use to provide effective support to your customers for your theme, plugin, or service.
Kyle (http://www.kylembrown.com/about) consults with business owners to help them understand how to use processes and software to become more efficient, scale, increase profits or just free up the time spent running their businesses so they have the freedom to do whatever they want.
Building a WordPress Dev Team: Principles, Challenges and Strategies
Mark Wahl (@markawahl (https://twitter.com/MarkAWahl))
WordPress is a really attractive platform for budding developers and small agencies trying to get off the ground. But as strong as a team and its offerings may be, challenges will arise as a company matures and needs to begin managing growth. These tend to have less to do with WordPress or the web products themselves than with the choices we need to make about how to build a team, establish development processes, and manage our work.
This talk will review a set of guiding principles I’ve found helpful in making such decisions on a web team at a boutique WordPress agency, as well as in other small development contexts. I’ll touch on a variety of specific challenges that a development team might face -- What CMS platform is right for us and why? How do we build and nurture the dev team? How do we manage projects, build websites and stay sane at the same time? -- and describe how these principles inform strategies that have worked for us in the form of tools, workflows, and even WordPress itself.
Mark is the Technical Director at Jake Group (https://jakegroup.com/) , a full-service communications firm located in Georgetown, DC.
As always, food and drink will be sponsored by CHIEF (http://agencychief.com/).
