Child Themes: A Crash Course

What is a child theme, and when should you use one? When shouldn't you use one? Do they still have a place in the age of starter themes? Of course! Let's talk about a few use cases, pros and cons, then...it's demo time. We'll create a child theme for Twenty Twelve, set up a stylesheet, implement a few useful hooks and filters, and talk best practices along the way.

Lara Schenck (http://notlaura.com/) is a freelance web designer, instructor, and fresh NYC transplant from Pittsburgh. Her freelance work focuses on custom websites for both businesses and individuals. She also teaches Front-end Web Development at General Assembly, and works part-time for the Institute of Play at Quest to Learn.

Winstina S. Hughes (http://www.planningwrite.com) is a writer and web designer.
