WordPress tips, tricks, plugin reviews, networking and PHP 8.
Details
* This meetup is in-person and will start at 6pm.
Last month's meetup was so much fun; I thought we could do something similar in August. Additionally, Felicia Betancourt will give tell us why we need to get ready for PHP 8.
== Get Ready for PHP 8 ==
When WP Engine announced that they were phasing out support for PHP 7.4 later this year in favor of PHP 8, my colleagues and I scrambled to test how well our clients' sites would hold up if the version of PHP were suddenly switched to 8.0 or higher. The results were not pretty. The inconvenient truth is that any plugin or theme that has not been updated recently may take your site down if you are forced to upgrade.
In this talk, I will discuss how to test your site for readiness, what to do if you are not ready, and highlight some of the good stuff that PHP 8 will bring to all of us in the WordPress community.
