Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Mastodon (But Were Afraid to Ask)

Have you found yourself feeling tired of all the usual social media haunts? Would you like a place you can call your own? Somewhere that can't be messed up by billionaires wielding leveraged buyouts and whiplash terms of service changes.

Well friend, federated social media is for you!

In this presentation, Jason Cosper will walk you through how federated social media sites like Mastodon work — and how, if properly motivated, you can set up your own Mastodon instance to run a small social network site for you and your friends.

SPEAKER: Jason Cosper

ABOUT SPEAKER: Hey there! My name is Jason Cosper and I work as the WordPress Product Advocate at DreamHost. But don't let my job title fool you - I'm really just a big fan of WordPress and love helping others use it to its full potential.

In my free time, I enjoy getting involved with various WordPress-related projects, like the WPwatercooler Podcast, Dev Branch Podcast, WordPress Hosting Team, WordPress Training Team, and WordPress Performance Team.

When I'm not working or nerding out about WordPress, you can find me dreaming of becoming either a filmmaker or astronaut. Basically, I just love using technology and storytelling to explore new frontiers.
