What we’re about
Wrights are skilled crafters, people who build objects both beautiful and reliable. Think shipwrights, millwrights, wheelwrights.
Wordwrights craft stories that are beautiful and strong. Stories that amuse us, move us, entertain and educate us. Wordwrights use many tools to develop their stories, hammer them into shape, carve out the delicate parts and then polish them until they shine on the page. While writing may seem like a magic power, it is a learned and practiced skill, a thinking craft, a hands-on trade.
This group is a place for Wordwrights to meet and work together.
There are a few things you need to know before joining this group.
- You must have some writing experience. While some of our members are not published yet, and are not Master Wordwrights, we do expect at least a Journeyman level of skill. Please include a description of your writing experience in your Meetup introduction.
- Your Meetup profile must include a picture, not just an avatar. We are an on-line community and trust is an essential ingredient. Therefore, a Meetup picture and the use of Zoom video is a must.
- Currently, we conduct monthly critique workshops. The ability to provide clear and useful critique is an essential writing skill. New members are required to read and critique other Wordwrights’ pieces in at least two workshops before becoming eligible to submit their own work.
- Our workshops take place on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the U.S. Eastern time zone. You must know English to participate.
We look forward to building, shaping and polishing stories with you! If you've read this far, you know we require a short description of your writing experience. You can send that to [wordwrightsworkshop@gmail.com](mailto:wordwrightsworkshop@gmail.com) along with any questions you have. Thanks!
