First Lines and First Chapters

Hello writers,

Let's get together and talk about... the beginning (of your story, that is).

As a writer, you have to ask yourself - what comes first?
-Ab ovo-
Or
-in res media-?

That is, ‘from the egg’ or ‘in the middle of things’?

The answer depends entirely on the story being shared. While ab ovo may be less popular right now, it remains a valuable tool and one -- of many -- great ways to start. Where should your story begin? What should the first chapter look like, or even the first 200 words?

Let’s share our experiences (and maybe some good examples of first passages) and see if we can pick up some pointers.
