Following Weston & Adams: Photographing Carmel & Point Lobos

http://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/b/e/f/c/event_231468892.jpeg"The greatest meeting of land and water in the world." A bold but justified claim for Point Lobos. Neighboring Carmel and gateway to Big Sur was named after it's beautiful mission. Founded in 1902, it was settled in large part by folks "devoting their lives to work connected to the aesthetic arts."

Are you ready to discover the stomping grounds of Ansel Adams and Edward Weston for yourself? Then join me for one day or an entire weekend of photographic and visual extravaganza.

On day 1 we will first spend several hours exploring the rocky ocean vistas and forested headlands of Point Lobos - where quiet coves may reveal otters cavorting with their young. In the afternoon we will explore the old California mission built in 1770, walk around town and end the day at the beach for sunset.

What you may learn:
• how to capture a sense of place
• how to incorporate lines, shapes and textures
• how to isolate subject matter with macro photography
• techniques to create emotionally compelling imagery
• how to approach people and create more interesting portraits
• how to weave a story with your images

Who should come?
This event is open to all experience levels. If you are not familiar with all the buttons, dials and menus of your particular camera don't worry too much. We will be focused on seeing and how to create images that convey a sense of place, emotion and wonder.

What to bring?
Your camera and a variety of lenses. Plenty of memory cards, extra camera batteries. Optional: flash, tripod. Bring (or buy) lunch, water and wear layered clothing for all weather conditions. It can be sunny and warm around town or on the trail, but cool and windy at the open ocean. Just be prepared. Though no rigourous hiking is necessary, you should be able to walk up to 3 miles comfortably.

Location Information: Point Lobos State Reserve is located 3 miles south of Carmel on Highway 1. There is a $10 entry fee per vehicle. It is also possible to park outside the reserve along Highway 1 and walk in. The reserve opens at 8am, so feel free to arrive early.
