http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/b/6/0/a/event_231466602.jpegSo what's to see and photograph in Monterey you ask?
Let's start with historic Cannery Row where you can practice your people shooting skills. http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/b/6/3/c/event_231466652.jpeg
Then let's move on to Lover's Point, the Point Pinos lighthouse and Asilomar State Beach with 26 acres of preserved sand dunes and the largest collection of Julia Morgan's arts and crafts architecture in one location.
We finish with some of the more dramatic sections of the 17-Mile Drive including the Lone Cypress and Spanish Bay and Pebble Beach cove.
For those wanting to trail me home, we will stop at a few spots along the way thru the Salinas valley for pastoral images of the farmland that Steinbeck made famous in his novels.
What you may learn:
• how to capture a sense of place
• how to incorporate lines, shapes and textures
• how to isolate subject matter with macro photography
• techniques to create emotionally compelling imagery
• how to approach people and create more interesting portraits
• how to weave a story with your images
Who should come?
This event is open to all experience levels. If you are not familiar with all the buttons, dials and menus of your particular camera don't worry too much. We will be focused on seeing and how to create images that convey a sense of place, emotion and wonder.
What to bring?
Your camera and a variety of lenses. Plenty of memory cards, extra camera batteries. Optional: flash, tripod. Bring (or buy) lunch, water and wear layered clothing for all weather conditions. It can be sunny and warm around town or on the trail, but cool and windy at the open ocean. Just be prepared. Though no rigourous hiking is necessary, you should be able to walk up to 3 miles comfortably.
Location Information: Monterey is located on a peninsula approximately 2 hours south of San Francisco.
