How to catch a super moon

It's Superman! No, no, it's supermoon! Break out your long lenses.

Our second opportunity is early on Sunday morning, June 23rd. The moon sets at 6:10am and the sun rises at 5:45am. We will start to notice light in the sky about 1/2 hour BEFORE the sun rises. We will have balanced light for about half an hour until the moon sinks into the Pacific, supposing clear skies of course.

So for this shoot I have chosen a location that will put the Golden Gate Bridge in front of the setting moon. This location is in the East Bay! We will meet at 5:15am. Parking at this location will be easy, but not accessible via BART or bus. I'll talk about the particulars of how to get great moon shoots as well as considerations for composition and balanced light. I will also talk about some of the ins and outs of night photography.

If you are new to photography, not to worry. If you don't know how to work all the buttons and dials, no problemo - just load a pdf of your camera manual on your phone and I can help you find everything, even if it's not a Nikon. :-)

Bring both a long lens (zoom) as well as a medium length lens for capturing the foreground. A tripod will also be helpful, as well as a remote trigger and if you have it a tele-extender (to make your long lens even longer.)
