Sounds Good To Me #3: Music Club (like a book club, but for music)

Details

This is an event for people to discover new music, talk about music, meet people and maybe find some gig buddies.

We will meet at The Star in Shoreditch (Old Street).
This is a nice bar with a good atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks, and a wide selection on tap - https://starinshoreditch.co.uk/

Arrive any time from 6pm.
We will kick-off with some conversation starters, games and music-themed activities between 6:30 and 7:30pm.

Please make sure you sign-up on the Eventbrite page here:
https://sounds-good-to-me-3.eventbrite.co.uk

It is £3 to sign-up for the event, but you get this back when you arrive. (this is to avoid people taking all the free tickets and then not showing up)

This event is a bit like a book club, but for music.

  • Each event will have a music playlist for you to listen to before we meet.
  • You don’t need to listen to all of it, but I recommend finding a few tracks you like (or that you at least have an opinion on). You shouldn't expect to like everything you hear.
  • The playlist will be the starting point for some conversations, but it’s only a starting point.
  • There will be some music-themed games and activities, including a mini music quiz, a judging panel, and a team game.
  • This will be a small event for up to 14 people.
  • Over time we will build a diverse playlist of music that has been popular with people at these events.
  • After each event I will make a new playlist. This will include new artists and tracks recommended by people at the event, and in the Whatsapp group.

We don’t only talk about music. It’s a social meetup with some music-themed games and activities, but it’s also a place to see where the conversation goes.

It doesn’t matter what music you are into. It is an off-line and analogue way of discovering new stuff, by talking to real people. Together, we are better than any algorithm :)

Everyone is welcome. All opinions and tastes are appreciated. If you want to recommend any music to the group, think about how you might describe it or the artists you would you compare it to?

This is also an opportunity for local artists to get their music heard. If you are a musician or if you know any, please contact me or come along. I can then add your music to the playlist.

Practical stuff...

Train stations in walking distance are Old Street, Hoxton, Shoreditch High Street, and a bit further to Liverpool Street. There are plenty of bus routes to this area (numbers 243, 155, 242, 149…etc.)

After the event, some of us might go to Old Street Records or The Old Blue Last for some free live music! This is only a short walk, so stick around if you'd like to join us.

There won’t be music played during the event. It’s a social for people who enjoy music, meeting people, and playing some simple games to get the conversation flowing.

Please make sure you get a ticket on the Eventbrite page here:
https://sounds-good-to-me-3.eventbrite.co.uk

When you arrive, you can find the group by looking for the table with the red hat on it.

If you have any questions… message me or leave a comment :)
