🎤 Ben Heller: Introducing PHP 8 and WordPress
Since PHP 7.0, the WordPress world has learned to adjust for the new directions PHP is taking as a language. While change can be difficult, we will be seeking to understand the positives that PHP 8 can bring. We will examine some of the most useful features applicable to WordPress development, some strategies for handling breaking changes, and the new horizons for PHP as a language. I believe PHP's best is yet to come and hopefully you leave feeling excited as well as a bit reassured about handling the transition.
Ben Heller is a PHP/JavaScript developer dedicated to continually learning and improving his craft. He has worked with WordPress throughout his career in a variety of capacities including solo direct-to-client, agency work, and currently leads development at MedSchoolCoach. Ben strongly believes that every interaction around code is an opportunity to learn and no single person will ever have all the best answers. He focuses on a team-first mentality and seeks to level the playing field by empowering senior developers with humility and junior developers with confidence. When not wrestling with the computer, Ben enjoys working on his Alaskan hobby farm and various musical projects and performances.
