It's time for another WordPress North East meetup! Join us at Campus North in Newcastle upon Tyne at 6pm on July 10th 2014.


1. Getting to grips with WP-API by @tnash (

WP-API (JSON-API) started as a summer of code project to provide a REST API for WordPress it's available now as a plugin and just passed through it's v1 release and slated to be included in core from 4.1. Tim will be going through the basics of REST-API's why they have become popular and some sample usage before looking at WP-API specifically. Looking at some use case examples and then how you can extend the API in your own plugins.

About the speaker: Tim is a WordPress enthusiast who specialises in looking at Performance, Security and Management. With a background in E-Commerce and Security, Tim speaks at WordPress groups in the UK and conferences including the upcoming/or just gone WordCamp Manchester as well as a past speaker at PayPals Innovate conference in San Francisco.


2. Designing for Humans. A practical look at design for engagement by @born_digital_ (

In this talk, Alison will discuss 7 key considerations which we should make when we design software systems. She will provide practical implementation examples and will explore how cognitive techniques can be applied to both website design and the structure and formatting of content management systems such as WordPress to develop effective digital products which people will actually want to use.

About the speaker: Alison trained as a Behavioural Psychologist before setting up a digital agency in 2005. She specialises in user interface design and regularly gives talks on the topic. She heads up the local software development company Born Digital and also owns and runs sleepstation - a Born Digital product and an online behavioural therapy programme for users with insomnia. (
