18:20: "WordPress Coding Standards" - Dave Green (

WordPress Coding Standards have been around for a while, yet many developers don’t write code with them, let alone know they exist. This was the case with me until September 2015 when I made the switch, and now I wish I’d dived in earlier! In this talk I’ll explain what they are, how they will help you write better, cleaner and more secure PHP code and why you should be using them for all WordPress projects. This is talk is the “full fat” edition of my lightning talk at WordCamp London 2016.

About Dave: Dave Green is a web developer from sunny Manchester specialising in Front-end development, WordPress and WooCommerce. He has been building for the web using WordPress for over five years and is the senior developer at Make Do ( a bespoke WordPress development agency.

18:50: "Optimising WordPress for high-traffic websites" - Lee Bolton (

An example of how WordPress can be used on large scale websites using the example of Wild Life Festival. The steps we took to optimise a media-rich website and enable it to cope with anything up to half a million visitors in the hours immediately following launch. I’ll talk through optimising performance and achieving 100% up time and load times well under a second.

About Lee: Owner of TAC Design (, front-end developer and former freelancer.
