1. Death to Lorem Ipsum: Building websites with meaning
- Ben McCluskey

Skill Level: All

Words are one of the most important elements of user experience. They're the catalyst for users visiting your website in the first place, downloading your app and giving you their email address. When you build a website before adding real words, you're building a website before adding meaningful context.

In this talk we'll consider how a content-first approach can improve every aspect of a website's design and development. And examine what healthy collaboration between content writers, devs and designers looks like.

About Ben

Ben is a freelance copywriter, consultant and amateur CSS enthusiast based in Bristol. I help complex businesses grow revenue and attract investment using trusted communication techniques. His clients range from multinational corporates like Invisalign, to tech startups, research institutes and creative agencies.

2. Live Streaming Workshop
- Leo Mindel

Skill level: All

Do you feel that the attention span of your website visitors is shorter than the time it takes to toast a bagel? Wouldn't it be great to attract people to visit a site without the need to create complex and time-consuming videos?

With all the new Live Streaming platforms out there and the reduction in the tech needed to Go Live, now is a great time to introduce Live Streaming to your armour.

This workshop will show you the hardware and software needed to setup and deliver your own live stream and how this can be achieved for under £150.

Once everything is setup, Leo will broadcast a live conversation with well-known WordPress personalities remotely. And if it all goes wrong, there is always free chocolate at his talks.

About Leo

Leo is the founder of Sotic, a multi award-winning Digital Sports Agency that uses WordPress CMS as the platform to deliver large-scale websites for major sporting rights-holders.

He has been a member of WordPress London since 2016 and has regularly livestreamed this Meetup.

🍴 We provide a free healthy buffet, that appeals to those with a wide range of dietary requirements (veggie, vegan, gluten-free and lactose free) thanks to our generous sponsors, 34SP.com and Atomic Smash.

🍻 There is a well-stocked and licensed bar at the venue, so please feel free to buy a drink to enjoy at our event. If you would like water, think of the environment 🌍 and bring a bottle 🙂

Located in the heart of Bristol, just on the edge of Bristol Bridge, our venue Runway East is easy to get to.

🚂 From Bristol Temple Meads it is a 10 minute (flat!) walk

🚘 For those in the car, there are pay and display spaces right outside the venue on Redcliff Street at a cost of around £3 for the evening. Alternatively there is an NCP on Queen Charlotte Street (five minute walk) costing a fixed £4.50 for the evening (5pm - 2am).

🚲 If you're on a bike, there are plenty of bike stands just across the road on the other side of Victoria Street.

⌚Please arrive from 6.30pm. You will be greeted by our friendly and knowledgeable volunteers who will give you your name badge and get settled in. Talks start around 7pm so there's plenty of time to meet our other members.

After the first talk we take a break and then have our second talk. The talks usually finish around 9.15pm (ish) and we aim to leave by 9.45pm (ish).

*If you find you can no longer make this meeting please do change your RSVP. As we provide food for these events it is helpful for us to know what number to cater for and of course to ensure that the waitlist is kept as short as possible. Thanks.
