Veterans world championships - 4 medalists from the Chicago Wrestling Club!

Last week at the Veterans World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, 4 wrestlers from the Chicago Wrestling Club won bronze medals.

Wrestling in the A-97 class (35-40 years old, 213 lbs). Octavius Bellamy won bronze in both greco and freestyle. It is highly unusual for a wrestler to medal in both styles, since most competitors specialize in one or the other these days, making the competition that much tougher.

Borys Kulich took bronze in the B-85 freestyle class (41-45 years, 187 lbs). After losing his first match to a Russian wrestler he came back in the wrestlebacks to win his next three matches and take a well-deserved medal. He had 19 wrestlers in his category.

Terry Harris went 1-2 in a 4-man round-robin freestyle bracket in G-76 (66-70 years, 167 lbs) but was very competitive in all of his matches. As the oldest man in the tournament he required special dispensation from the president of FILA to compete, since technically he was over the age limit.

Peter Haag went 2-1 to medal in E-85 greco (56-60 years, 187 lbs). There were 8 wrestlers in his weight class.

The tournament included wrestlers aged 35 to 70 from 48 countries. Next year's tournament will be held in Sarajevo, Bosnia.

See you all at Quads.
