Details
Wrexham Humanists will host our first social of the year on Tuesday January 30th, 7pm-9pm at Saith Seren! Our socials are always very open and informal, but to give you an idea what to expect, there will be plenty to talk about! I’ll introduce each of the points mentioned below – from there, we can focus on whichever points the group is most interested in and let the chat flow from there.
See you on the 30th!
- What’s it all about: As always, we want to warmly welcome anyone who is attending their first Wrexham Humanists Social, give everyone a chance to introduce themselves, and welcome any questions for the group. What is humanism, and why does it matter? Why did each of us decide to be humanists?
- Wrexham Humanists Book Club: Have you read a book recently that you really liked? What book has had made the biggest impression on you in your lifetime? Everyone is welcome to bring a book to our next social to read a brief quote, or just share your thoughts about it. This could be a book about humanism, or any book that was inspiring, thought provoking or meaningful to you!
- Representing humanism at the Llangollen Eisteddfod: In July the North Wales Interfaith Network will be delivering an Interfaith Service onstage at the 2024 Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod…and Wales based humanists have an open invitation to take part! This is an amazing opportunity for humanism to have equal and inclusive representation in front of a large audience.
What ideas do you have to celebrate humanism at this event?
Would you like to be onstage to represent humanism in person? - Connecting with other humanists in Wales: In June Humanists UK will be hosting their annual convention in Cardiff, which could be a great opportunity to connect with other Wales based humanists. In 2023 we started chatting to Cardiff Humanists and West Glamorgan Humanists online – are you interested in developing those relationships further to help humanism become a more vibrant community in Wales?
- Secular meditation: Historically, meditation has been heavily associated with religion, but now there are more opportunities than ever to experience peace, stillness and/or altered states of consciousness in a secular context that is open and inclusive of non-religious people. I tried sound bath meditation for the first time in October, and had a wonderful experience – I’m going again this month!
Who else has an experience of meditation they’d like to talk about?
Are you interested in taking part in a secular meditation session as a group? - What’s next: Wrexham Humanists hosted 5 socials last year – we started plenty of interesting conversations and started getting to know each other, but what would you like to do next? Is there a topic you would like to discuss further, or a cause you would like the group to support? What activities would you like the group to organise? Let us know your thoughts!
- Wrexham Humanists t-shirts: We have official t-shirts for sale! If you would like to support the group and wear an awesome humanist shirt with pride, let us know and we’ll print one for you! WH badges are also available free of charge as a thank you gift for anyone who supports the group by attending our socials. (Shirts available in all sizes, £20 per shirt)
- The floor is yours: what do YOU want to talk about? We’re just chatting, everyone is welcome to share a thought, a question, an idea…anything you like!
