What we’re about

Write Club Chennai begins its journey on 21 September 2025 (Sunday). Inspired by the spirit of Write Club Bangalore, we want to create a welcoming space for people who love to write, or simply want to start writing. Our belief is simple: you learn to write only by writing, and some writing — no matter how rough — is always better than none.

Our meetups are structured with this in mind. Talking time is kept minimal. A host introduces a theme or prompt, shares examples to spark ideas, and then gives out a writing exercise. Members spend the first 1 to 1.5 hours writing, followed by reading sessions where everyone shares what they wrote. The idea is not competition, but practice, expression, and community.

Write Club Chennai sessions will be held every Sunday from 2 PM to 5 PM at the Connemara Public Library, Pantheon Road, Egmore, Chennai.

Though we are just starting out, our vision is to build a consistent, respectful, and supportive community of writers. We welcome fiction and non-fiction, poetry and prose, reflections and experiments. No prior writing experience is required — just the willingness to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard).

We uphold values of mutual respect and inclusivity. Personal opinions on gender, caste, creed, religion, sexuality, language, and politics may differ, but we encourage members to engage with dignity and openness. The club can only thrive in an atmosphere of kindness and respect.

If you’d like to be part of this growing community, come join us.
