Abstract:

As a technical writer, you're an expert at communicating complex ideas on paper. But when it comes to presenting those ideas in person, do you find yourself wanting to run away? You're not alone. Many tech writers excel at written communication but struggle with presenting their ideas.

In this talk, CT Smith shares her super-secret presentation prep method designed specifically for reluctant presenters. Drawing from years of experience in both creating documentation and coaching introverted communicators, CT will share:
- Why strong presentation skills belong in a tech writer's toolkit
- A step-by-step approach to crafting presentations that engage your audience
- Practical strategies to overcome presentation anxiety and build confidence, even if you'd "rather be doing anything else"
- Tips for people managers on how to nurture presentation skills in team members who prefer to let their writing do the talking.

Whether you're a tech writer looking to amplify your impact or a manager aiming to empower your team, this talk will give you the tools to turn hesitant writers into persuasive presenters.

Speaker Bio:
CT Smith manages the docs at Payabli, bringing almost 15 years of expertise in technical writing to the role. Her passion for technical writing dates back to childhood, when she confidently declared that she wanted to "write VCR manuals" when she grew up. Before Payabli, CT spent time at Salesforce and Amplitude, working as both a lone writer and a member of a large team.

She specializes in developer docs, content migrations, and running workshops on project communication and writing skills for engineers.

At home in the Southern Appalachian region of the US, CT spends all her spare time sewing clothes, growing herbs, and talking at great length about niche topics like traditional burial practices and compost toilets (although she has no formal training in either).
