Think about the people who have positively influenced your career and your day-to-day work: a colleague who stepped in when you were stuck; a friend who passed along a job lead; a stranger in a meetup (like ours!) who answered your question. Now think about the times you've been that person for someone else. Acts of kindness can make life as a technical writer more fun and fulfilling. In this meetup, we'll share stories of help given and received, reflect on what makes it easy or hard to provide and accept support, and explore how we can continue to show up for one another.

  • What acts of kindness have you received from others that have helped you in your day-to-day work or your career? How did they help?
  • What acts of kindness have you done for others? What prompted you to help?
  • At the office: When have you and your colleagues helped one another with tasks, challenges, and goals? Can you think of other opportunities, small or large?
  • Not at the office: When have you and your friends helped one another with job- or career-related issues? In your experience, what are the benefits of conferring with a friend?
  • Have you ever wanted to help and failed? Are there times when you shouldn’t help?
  • What does it take to accept an act of kindness? What does it take to request one?
  • In professional organizations like Write the Docs: What are some favorite tips, resources, and contributions that have been shared with you and others? What kinds of questions have you asked? What kinds of requests do respond to?
  • How can the East Coast Virtual meetup be more helpful to you?
