Focused conversation: Inclusive tech writing

Details
It's time to reconnect with other documentarians over a beverage of your choice. Join us for a focused and friendly conversation on creating inclusive content.
Technical communicators can make products and services more accessible by writing for a broad audience with diverse needs. Let’s talk about how we center diversity, equity, and inclusion in our work. For concise descriptions of these terms, see Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Brigitte Mussack’s Introduction to Technical and Professional Communication.
- Most of us have experienced an a-ha moment where we’ve suddenly realized our documentation isn’t as accessible as we thought it was. What interactions, resources, or conversations have generated these kinds of realizations for you? How did you revise your documentation?
- How do you make your documentation accessible to an audience with diverse needs? How do you know whether you’ve been successful?
- What content and formatting standards are easy to implement and remember? What do you always have to look up?
Several helpful resources we use include:
- February’s Write the Docs newsletter Inclusiveness in diagrams
- Google developer documentation style guide Write inclusive documentation
- What resources can you recommend?
- What tips can you share?
- What questions do you have?
Attend for as long as your schedule allows. This event gives us time to support and network with each other.
We'll be using Zoom for this social. Register for the event to receive the Zoom link here in the event description.
