Presentation: Making AI visible in TC

Details
Join Nupoor Ranade, Faculty, Technical Communication and Rhetoric at Carnegie Mellon University for an informative talk. Whether you're new to the group or curious about documentation and technology, we welcome you to listen in and network with tech comm professionals.
About the presentation:
AI is helping technical communicators solve certain problems such as content and code generation, assisting in translation activities and speeding up tasks like copyediting. Whether it impacts the efficiency of TC work is uncertain, but there are other challenges that AI poses such as inequities and misinformation. Technical communicators can be tasked with documenting AI algorithms to make some of them visible. But because of their constantly evolving nature and disciplinary complexity, documenting AI technologies is challenging and often handled by engineers. In this presentation, Ranade argues that technical communicators, with their audience analysis and experience design competencies can help in making AI technologies visible to relevant users. The presentation will use case studies to discuss and exemplify three core tenets of AI work in TC: 1) Writing with AI, 2) Writing for AI 3) Writing about AI. Ranade will provide practical strategies that will help you use AI for TC tasks, training and research as well as strategically articulate the value of AI at your organizations.
As always, the Write the Docs code of conduct applies.
