Social Freedom What it is and what is not: A Philosophical Perspective

Details

Social Freedom means being comfortable with who you are.

The great 18th century philosopher, Jean-Jacques Rousseau once coined the phrase:
"Man is free yet everywhere he is in chains"

In this intellectual/philosophical discussion we will crack open conversations on what it is to be socially free and how freedom can often be abused. Is social freedom only to serve the individual? And is it freedom if it cannot benefit society as a whole? Moreover, how can we define what social freedom is? Is it freedom of expression? Freedom to dissent against injustices? And it may also be the liberty of choice of lifestyle, relationships and artistic expression.

In this session of our discussion, we will discuss the question of whether or not social and political change is possible in society. Do elections really bring significant moral change and contribute to social evolution? It may interrupt or alter the direction of policy development in a country, however the quality of life of the greater proportion of its citizens is not significantly improved. In every revolution in history there was a regression to political and social tyranny in one form or another. Is human evolution really happening? Or does it have the appearance of manifestation?

Come jump in the fray of this dialogue. I would love to hear from you.

A 3$ contribution will be requested for the tea or other beverages.
