What we’re about
We are a fun and supportive group of writers living in and around Northern Virginia. All skill levels and all types of writing are represented: novels, poetry, lyrics, short stories, non-fiction, children's stories, and more!
In the before times, we met in person every Wednesday at 7pm either at a local high school or public library. Since March 2020, we've been meeting via Zoom, but we do hope to return to in person when it is safe to do so. (We'll keep some online component since we have members all over the country.)
Meetings generally last about 2 hours and are either sessions designed to provide feedback on members' work, or a workshop session aimed at a specific element of writing. Following the meeting there is an informal social gathering - in person or on Zoom. All are welcome.
Check the Calendar for details.
Come by and check it out, or email us for more information. We don't bite.
Our annual dues are now $10. Every new member gets a grace period of two months to try the group on for size.
The money is used to cover costs associated with the Meetup Site, Zoom, and copies, handouts, and other supplies utilized by the group. "Extra" funds will either carry over to future year's costs OR be used to throw a party for the group or present awards. The group will decide.
We ask new members to spend some time in the group before posting work for critique. This has the dual result of the group getting to know the writer - what are the goals/expectations/experiences - and it helps the writer get to know the group to better understand the feedback being received ("this person doesn't connect with my material BUT also doesn't read this genre..."). Active participation is key!

Thanks!
