AWG Meeting - Story Surgery
Details
Have you got your general story idea but you aren't sure if you should spend the next months or years working on a novel or weeks and months on something shorter?
Are you asking yourself if your concept will be a compelling read? If it's a novel, will it support 80,000 words? Do your character arcs make sense? Are there arcs? What's a character arc? Do I really need one?
Good questions, all.
For this session, participants will share a Story Outline in advance and the group will provide analysis and input on these and other burning questions. Unlike critique sessions where the author is silent and out of the chat, the author is a crucial part of the discussion in real time. Kind of a Public Defender for the work.
You can use whatever outline form you like - bullet points, three act structure, hero's journey, snowflake, Nash's blueprint, nutshell, whatever you like. We just want some main points and plot elements and twists written out. (And it's okay to have a few blank spots - that's what the session is for.)
Recommend perusing the OUTLINING folder in the Resources & Presentations Folder in Dropbox for tips.
